Consumer Reports: Quartz Sets the Standard

Consumer Reports: Quartz Sets the Standard

September 09, 2014

You’ve heard us say before that Quartz surfacing is more than just a passing fad. As building professionals and homeowners learn more about this remarkable material, its popularity is expanding exponentially. In fact, it’s one of the most popular countertop materials used today, second only to granite. In a recent study by Consumer Reports, Quartz came out ahead over 14 other materials tested, proving that it can hold its own against the competition.

As reported in the Boston Sunday Globe piece "Counters that take abuse and still look good", Quartz withstood nearly every test it was put to, including stains, hot pots, abrasive pads, and knives. When the company stained, sliced, scratched, scorched and nicked all of the materials, Quartz provided the most resistance to all of the above. The results also indicated that, most competing Quartz brands fared just as well as the others.

Our Quartz brand of choice is ColorQuartz. Just like many of its counterparts, ColorQuartz is made from 93 percent natural quartz and is non-porous, stain resistant, and practically maintenance free. But what we love most about ColorQuartz is that it’s available in a large slab size (124 inches by 62 inches) and allows us to offer faster lead times and competitive pricing.

Originally from Taiwan and with more than 40 years of experience in the surfacing industry, ColorQuartz is headquartered in the design-rich environment of Southern California. They utilize their ties to manufacturing facilities in China to offer competitive pricing for cut-to-size materials. Since the owners are keenly familiar with the top level of quality expected in the United States, they’re able to create a high-performance material that’s backed by a 10-year warranty.

Here at Marble and Granite, Inc. we’re proud to serve as the exclusive distributor of ColorQuartz for the Northeast, covering the U.S. from Maine through New York, and into Southern Canada. Come and explore our New England area showrooms where we have 40 shades of ColorQuartz on display for your perusal. Our team of experts is happy to answer the questions you have about quartz or any other surfacing material you may be interested in exploring.
