Not only does marble make a stunning surfacing choice, but it’s also one of today’s hottest home accessories! From exquisitely designed lighting to a simple candlestick, marble can now be found in some pretty unexpected places around the home. As a decorative material, it adds an elegance and warmth that’s undeniable.

Although Italy or Spain might come to mind for most people when asked where the best marble is quarried, some of the finest marble comes from right here in the U.S.A. One quarry in particular, the Yule Creek Quarry located in the West Elk Mountains of Colorado, yields a clean white marble with a homogeneous texture, popularly known as Calacatta Lincoln, that’s made this particular quarry an interesting part of American history. 

While “Carrara” usually refers to a specific variety of white marble quarried in Italy, the term is often extended to similar white marbles that are found relatively nearby. Turkish Carrara offers a similar look to the Italian variety, with the same visual purity that’s just as striking.

In today’s building and construction industry, “green” has evolved from a mere buzzword into a solid reality. Architects, builders, and homeowners alike recognize the need to increase our environmental consciousness and do what we can to be kinder and gentler to the earth, plus conserve our natural resources. The stone columns of the Parthenon, which have stood since 447 BC, are one example; the Egyptian pyramids are another. Natural stone is so durable, in fact, that in most cases it will last the lifetime of any particular building.
