Elegant and Luxurious, this fireplace surround exudes sophistication.  But can you tell? Is it Marble or Neolith?

It looks like real marble, with its combination of thick and subtle veins crossing a pure white background just like Calacatta marble.  But if you guessed that the material pictured here is Neolith, you are exactly right!
 
This is super-strong Neolith in Estatuario.  With a look so similar to real marble, this ultra-light weight material is made from 100-percent natural materials, but it wasn't found in a quarry.  Neolith is made by mixing substances including clay or sand (including quartz, feldspar, silica, and mineral oxide) in a high-pressure, high temperature kilning process.  The result is one of the most resilient surfaces on the market today.  Neolith slabs are resistant to scratching, stains, extreme changes in temperature and moisture, fire, high traffic, chemicals, and even ultra-violent rays.  It's exceptionally lightweight.  In fact, 1/4" thick slabs weigh 3.5 lbs. per sq ft and 1/2" thick slabs weight 7 lbs. per sq ft.  It's also a waterproof, hygienic surface that won't harbor harmful bacteria - a trait that's especially deisrable these days.
 
Neolith is excellent for a multitude of applications from countertops, walls and fireplace surrounds to flooring, wall-cladding and sinks.  Neolith can also be used in outdoor applications such as outdoor kitchens, and architects love Neolith for building exteriors.
